June 24, Black Bomber

I can’t say enough how much I love this black bomber jacket. I bought it at H&M a few years ago, and it is such a great staple in my closet. It’s the perfect alternative to a cardigan for a chilly day.

In the picture on the left, I am wearing an American Eagle grey v neck t shirt with a zip up workout jacket from Lucy. This little jacket is perfect for when I’m playing tennis, but paired with a regular outfit it looks out of date. Instead, I’ll wear a black bomber jacket with the sleeves pushed up. This is a little more stylish, and just as warm. I’ve also replaced the white tennis shoes with my black Adidas- they don’t draw as much attention to my feet- and pair nicely with the black jacket. Tuck in my shirt, add a belt and some jewelry and I am set!

May 20, Grey Monday

Good morning! It’s dark and grey outside, and I have a feeling it’s going to be like this all day, so I am wearing jeans, a sweatshirt and tennis shoes.

However, I do have to go to work, and the outfit on the left is a little too casual. While I love my Seahawks hoodie, this is not appropriate for my workplace. The cute camo sweatshirt is a little dressier (did I just call a sweatshirt dressy? Oh my!) and the black tennis shoes make my legs look a lot longer since there is one continuous line of black. Do the half tuck to emphasize my waist, throw on some bracelets for a little sparkle, and I’m ready for you 1st graders!

A close up of my bracelets today. The 3 on the left are new- a gift from a dear friend. Love them!

April 14, Athleisure

I’m finally home from my weeklong college tour trip. What a fun week with my daughter, but boy, I’m exhausted! Today I will be doing laundry, cleaning the house and stocking up on groceries… and probably sleeping a lot!

I could wear the all black outfit on the left, but wouldn’t it be more fun to wear the cute leggings on the right? Patterned leggings are a stylish way to wear athleisurewear- and the cropped style is a little more on trend than the long ones on the left.  Notice the details on my jacket. Do you see how the vertical stitching defines my shape? It’s subtle, but those tiny details do make a difference. And the black tennis shoes look better than the pink and grey ones.

April 10, Camo Sweatshirt

I know what you’re saying, enough with the camo already! But I just love it so much I can’t help myself! It’s easy to wear, pairs well with almost anything- and is super on trend. For our college tour today, it’s going to be chilly, so I’m wearing my black jeans (from the plane) and this cute camo sweatshirt.

In my before photo I am wearing my original camo sweatshirt that I bought from Target about 5 years ago. While I still love it, the newer, brighter version is a little cuter, especially with my black jeans. I like the boldness of the print- and the white stripes on the sleeves take it up a notch. This one is from American Eagle and the inside is so soft and warm- you will never want to take it off! Replacing the ugly grey tennis shoes with my cute black Adidas finishes off the outfit.

Feb 26, Camo Leggings

We all know how much I love my camo leggings! If not, check out these posts here and here. But I do want to say, there is such thing as too much camo- as seen in the photo below!

I would have never really worn the outfit on the left, but I wanted to demonstrate how a little camo goes a long way. This pattern is so strong that the outfit it much cuter with this plain top and bomber jacket.

I love this top because of the length and neckline. It covers my butt- plus has draping in it to give it interest and shape. See photo below-

The draping is great for hiding my tummy!

This bomber jacket I bought at H&M and I love it.! It’s a nice alternative to a cardigan, plus it’s warmer! Best of all, it’s fun to wear! In the next few months I will pair it with jeans, joggers or even over a dress. It’s a perfect staple piece.

What is one of your wardrobe staples? I love hearing from readers to get inspiration. Have a great day!

Feb 10, Athleisure Wear

Feb 10, Athleisure Wear

Athleisure is the term for clothes made for working out, but worn in other ways- such as going to work, running errands, or in my case- lounging around the house all day.

In my before photo I am wearing patterned leggings and a red sweatshirt. The sweatshirt has a giant pocket right in the middle which adds bulk to my tummy, which I definitely do not want! Instead I’ll wear this purple Lululemon top that is more slimming.

This Lulu top is nice & long and covers me up, plus it has the cutest ruffle detail on the sleeves- see below:

In case I decide to brave the snow and run some errands, I’ll throw on this cute quilted Moto jacket. It’s a little more fun than just a plain black North Face, which is what I normally wear.

Feb 9, Grateful

Feb 9, Grateful

I know you can’t read my sweatshirt (that’s the problem with taking photos in the mirror), but it says Grateful. I’m grateful we survived snowmaggedon! We did get a ton of snow… but we are all safe and cozy in the house- and here we will stay.

Since I’m just lounging around all day, I’m wearing comfy joggers and sweatshirt (and slippers, but the tennis shoes looked cuter for the photo) and watching TV, reading my book, or playing games. Has anyone played Splendor yet? It is so addictive and fun.

In my before picture these pants are messy looking. They are super wrinkly, and the pockets on the sides (cargo style) aren’t working for me- they just add weight to my legs, which no one wants. If you are going to wear cargo pants, then they need to be skinny- so the cargo pockets aren’t adding any bulk.

The hemline is also awkward. It goes up too high on one side, then is baggy on the other.

I have replaced the cargo pants with the dark grey joggers. Maybe I’m just being hopeful, but it seems like my legs look thinner in the after picture?!

These joggers are from the Gap, and they may actually be pj’s… at least that’s how I’ve always worn them, but now that I study style blogs all day, I am seeing joggers everywhere, so I thought I’d give them a try.  To add a little style, I pushed up the hem a little and opted for my cute black Adidas.

As for my sweatshirt, by just doing the little half tuck I have altered the straight line across my body. For some reason, this is slimming. Check out this photo below of the exact same outfit, without the legs pushed up and the half tuck. Amazing, right?

Now, back to my grateful sweatshirt. Not to be all preachy or anything, but years ago I was going through a time in my life where I was struggling with finding joy. Nothing serious, but I just wasn’t as happy as I felt I should have been. I decided to start a gratitude journal, where I started listing 5 things a day that I was grateful for. This really forced me to recognize how blessed I am, and to look for beauty in the world (and in people), and honestly helped me become a much happier person. I strongly suggest starting your own gratitude journal. Even if you don’t write things down, just noticing things you are thankful for will make a huge difference.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes!

One thing I am grateful for is this blog. I love playing with my clothes and putting together outfits, it helps me express my creative side and honestly brings me joy.  Thanks for being a part of it. xoxo, Megan
