Oct 10, Denim Shirt

Today’s OOTD is another Nordstrom inspired look from the email marketing campaign I received over the weekend.

The advice for today was to build a look around a classic accessory like a wool felt hat, which is adorable on some people, but not me! Instead I decided to build my outfit around a classic piece- my denim shirt.

I’ve had a denim shirt for years now, and if you don’t own one- I highly suggest you buy one asap. Either that or a denim jacket, which may be my all time favorite! A denim shirt (or jacket) is so versatile, it literally goes with everything. I always pack one when I travel, as it is the perfect layering piece. The one I’m wearing today is from American Eagle, but I also have one from J Crew that is more fitted.

Today I have paired my shirt with joggers. I like the casual, loose fit, but I don’t want to look messy, so I needed to tuck it in and roll the sleeves. To really add some style I have chosen snakeskin slides. While it’s tempting to just wear my comfy slip on sneakers, these shoes are a statement piece and truly complete the look.

June 24, Black Bomber

I can’t say enough how much I love this black bomber jacket. I bought it at H&M a few years ago, and it is such a great staple in my closet. It’s the perfect alternative to a cardigan for a chilly day.

In the picture on the left, I am wearing an American Eagle grey v neck t shirt with a zip up workout jacket from Lucy. This little jacket is perfect for when I’m playing tennis, but paired with a regular outfit it looks out of date. Instead, I’ll wear a black bomber jacket with the sleeves pushed up. This is a little more stylish, and just as warm. I’ve also replaced the white tennis shoes with my black Adidas- they don’t draw as much attention to my feet- and pair nicely with the black jacket. Tuck in my shirt, add a belt and some jewelry and I am set!

April 10, Camo Sweatshirt

I know what you’re saying, enough with the camo already! But I just love it so much I can’t help myself! It’s easy to wear, pairs well with almost anything- and is super on trend. For our college tour today, it’s going to be chilly, so I’m wearing my black jeans (from the plane) and this cute camo sweatshirt.

In my before photo I am wearing my original camo sweatshirt that I bought from Target about 5 years ago. While I still love it, the newer, brighter version is a little cuter, especially with my black jeans. I like the boldness of the print- and the white stripes on the sleeves take it up a notch. This one is from American Eagle and the inside is so soft and warm- you will never want to take it off! Replacing the ugly grey tennis shoes with my cute black Adidas finishes off the outfit.

Jan 28th, Comfy Flannel

Let me tell you about this flannel shirt!  I love it so much that I have to force myself to actually not wear it!  I got it at American Eagle when I was shopping for my daughter- but it caught my eye as something I could wear, so I bought it. It is so warm and soft. I love the colors and now it has become one of my weekend go to’s! But buttoned up and untucked it looks frumpy.

In my ‘after’ look I have layered the flannel over a black tank from the Gap, unbuttoned the shirt a few buttons, tucked the front in and added a belt.  Looking at the photos, I think I should add some necklaces as well.

On top of it all, I threw on my black down vest- which will help keep me warm in addition to adding interest and texture to my outfit. For my feet- I’m wearing my black Adidas- they just look a little more sporty and cuter than the old running shoes in the before pic.

One thing to note is this shirt is great because it hangs down really low in the back- covering my bum. (see photo below)

This is an easy, comfy but cute outfit perfect for running errands- or whatever you have planned today!
