Feb 28, Geometric Skirt

In today’s before look I paired this cute geometric print skirt with this giant sweater. I LOVE this sweater, just not with the skirt. Since the skirt is so voluminous, I need something fitting on top. This sleek black turtleneck is perfect- it balances out the top and bottom. Adding this cute necklace gives the outfit a little color and I completed the look with these black booties.

I bought this skirt years ago at Target, and I love it because the waistband is elastic, and so it’s super comfy. The length is good for me (not too short) and the black and white make it easy to pair with anything. It would be fun to try a colorful top with it, but today I’m playing it safe and sticking to black and white.

True confession here- I am not really wearing this outfit today. I actually have a tennis match, so I’ll be wearing a tennis skirt and hopefully kicking some ass on the court! But… since you probably don’t want to see me in my tennis skirt (those things are SHORT!) I decided to show a different outfit.

DSCN6285DSCN6281Again, I have no time to write this morning- things are in full on crazy mode around here (is it like that at your house too?).

Here is my outfit for the day… Changing the sweater for a more fitted turtleneck and adding a scarf adds texture and interest.

Have a great day. Smile at someone new today.

March 9th, Khaki and Black

This outfit is so simple that I almost feel silly showing it!

I’m telling you right now, if you are looking for cutting edge fashion you’ve come to the wrong place. If you want simple mom outfits- welcome to my blog!

That being said, I really love this look- just khaki and black! It’s classic, easy and cute!

I bought this skirt a long time ago- and have worn it several times- I love that it’s been a such a versatile piece for me.

On the  right I’ve paired it with a black turtleneck. There isn’t anything wrong with this look- but it might be a little too covered up.  It’s too safe (and wintery).

On the left I have replaced the turtleneck for a v neck sweater. By showing a little more skin, it looks better. To complete the look, I’ve added a long pendant necklace. This is a good trick to draw the eye up and down (making me look thinner!).

Happy Friday! Have a great weekend!

ps. where are you spring? I’m ready and waiting…

pss. thanks for all the votes for Top Mommy Blogs! You all are awesome!

psss. it’s Fashion Friday, so of course I’ve linked up with my pals at Girlymama… check them out!

Simple, yet stylish!

Dec 28th, 30 for 30- Day 28

Work it Wednesday– today’s theme is my ever favorite- the black turtleneck. I’ve done this before, (here) but thought it’d be fun to try again today, especially since my choices are so limited.

My first look is my Rachel Zoe inspired, night on the town, all black with faux fur.

I like the way the necklace picks up the color in the fur.

My next look is more of a daytime look- I’ve added a cute jacket and bright scarf. This jacket works well because it has elastic at the waist, which helps define my middle- and doesn’t let the jacket overwhelm me.

Perfect for a cold and rainy day- like today!

My 3rd look is another daytime look. I’ve paired this oatmeal sweater with this gorgeous scarf, added some thick wool socks (scrunched down) and these cute boots.

Love these shoes with this sweater! Looks like they were made to go together.

Since I was on a roll, I decided to try a few more looks:

This outfit is all about the gold scarf.

Audrey Hepburn inspired look.

Return of the grandpa sweater!

As you can see, my black turtleneck is probably the most versatile piece I own. Since I’m always cold, it works well to keep me warm, and acts as a base for me to add items to.

Which of these looks is your favorite? Any?!

Dec 18th, 30 for 30- Day 18

Good morning! Another late post again today- sorry!

We are taking the kids ice skating today, so I want to dress warm and comfy (seems like I say this every day- warm and comfy are definitely my style!).

I chose a very plain outfit of jeans and a black turtleneck- and then dressed it up with a Burberry inspired scarf. Simple, casual and warm.

Enjoy your Sunday- what do you have planned?

This scarf adds a bit of polish to my plain look.

Dec 11th, 30 for 30- Day 11

Sorry for the late post. I’ve spent most of my morning in my jammies, lounging by the fire and playing with my puppy.

However, I must get dressed because this afternoon I am going to the symphony to watch my daughter’s choir sing.

Since this is the local symphony- and the performance will be in a high school gym, I don’t feel the need to get really formal. However, it is a special occasion, so I’ve decided to wear a dress- but I’ve turned it into a skirt.

I’m wearing my basic black turtleneck over the dress, then added a ribbon belt to define my waist. To accessorize I’m wearing my clover necklace, black boots and tights.

I’m so excited to have found a new way to wear this summery dress! Have you ever tried this? Please send photos… everydaymomstyle@gmail.com

By wearing a sweater over the dress, it now looks like a skirt! Cool!

Nov 28th, Simple Style

I’ve mentioned this before, but photographing and writing about my outfit each day has been an enormous learning process for me.

I’ve definitely discovered that I am a very simple dresser. I see so many fabulous and fashionable people- and while I admire their style, it’s just not me.

I know I’ll never be the most fashionable person in the room, and I know that lots of people might not even like my style- but in the end, that doesn’t even matter. What matters is; How do I feel?  Am I comfortable?

The key to being fashionable, is to own your look- and if that’s something as simple as khakis and a black turtleneck- than that’s ok!

For today I’m showing 2 versions of this very easy look.

On the right I have on traditional khakis, black flats and a plain turtleneck. It’s fine, but boring.

On the left I’ve switched out the plain pants for a cargos. I’ve also switched out the black flats for leopard and added a necklace. Now my outfit is a a reflection of me!

Pretty simple, but it's a classic look that is timeless.
