After my streak of black and white (and grey and white), I decided I needed a burst of color in my OOTD, so I chose this bright orange tank and paired it with blue jeans and a cardigan.
In my ‘before’ look my straight leg jeans and black ballet flats are a little dated, and there is something about wearing orange and black that reminds me too much of Halloween!
To fix my outfit, I changed into skinny jeans (these are my Gap ones, which seem to be my favorite), tucked in my tank, added a belt and then threw on this cute shrug cardigan. To complete my outfit, I decided to wear these fun T strap black Paul Green shoes. I am a HUGE fan of Paul Green shoes. Yes, they are expensive, but since my feet hurt all the time, these are a dream. They are very well made and incredibly comfortable. Plus, I think they add an edgy/ unexpected touch to my outfit!
Tank- TJ Maxx
Sweater- Forever 21
Shoes- Paul Green, Nordstrom (this is similar, my shoes are a few years old)
If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll know that all the rage this winter has been the duster cardigan, which for those of you who are wondering is one that falls somewhere below your knee. Today my OOTD is my cream duster paired with grey jeans and a cute patterned top.
In my before look, my cardigan looks a little too much like a bathrobe, and the plain t shirt underneath doesn’t add much interest. My bulky UGGS also aren’t helping! I look like I just rolled out of bed!
For my after look, I replaced the bathrobe sweater with this cute lightweight duster from Target. You may have noticed, but I seem to be finding A LOT of really cute clothes at Target lately. I’m warning you, be careful, you go to buy toilet paper and come out with a new wardrobe!
This cute silk top is perfect under the cardigan. The pattern is subtle, yet interesting and the colors are perfect. I bought this in a local boutique a few years ago, which sadly is now out of business. Swapping out the Uggs for my cute grey booties completes the look. I wear these grey booties all the time- grey is my new ‘go to’ color, and having grey shoes is really coming in handy. I will need to look for some for spring! Any suggestions?!
One thing you may have noticed about me is that I very rarely wear any patterns, except for stripes. However, occasionally I like wearing a patterned camisole as a way to add a little color and interest to my outfit.
In my before picture I am wearing a printed t shirt (and for you eagle eyed readers that is from Free State Brewery in Lawrence, Kansas. That shirt is from back when I was in college, it is almost 30 years old and I still have it).
As much as I love it for the memories, the T shirt does not look good in this outfit. The neckline is way to high, it is super wrinkly and way too big. In my after look, I have replaced the t shirt with this cute printed camisole. Yes, it’s 40 degrees outside, but layered under this cozy long cardigan I am warm. The pattern on the tank is fun- and the neckline is more flattering.
Instead of blue jeans, I am wearing grey ones- and as you can see, I rolled up the hems a little. For my feet I replaced the orthopedic Danskos with my cute Paul Green booties.
One thing I’m trying to be better at is wearing more jewelry. I love the look of stacked bracelets, yet rarely wear them, so today I’ve added a few.
Since the Seahawks aren’t in the Super Bowl this year, I think I’ll skip wearing the team sweatshirt and go for a cute and VERY cozy striped cardigan instead. The loose tank under the cardigan is perfect for a Super Bowl party. There is plenty of room for me to eat to my hearts content. Which I will be doing since I could care less about the actual game!
Now here’s a little secret about what’s underneath my tank- another tank!
I wear a tank top almost every day under my clothes. I love this one that I found at Uniqlo. It keeps me warm- and also helps hold my tummy in. Plus, with the built in bra, it is an easy and comfy way to get the support I need (for those of you who want to know, I am a B cup, so this may not work for you bigger breasted gals).
Today’s ‘before’ look is jeans and a t shirt (seems to be a pattern here- see yesterday’s post), but today I’m switching up my outfit by tying a knot in my shirt instead of doing the half tuck that is so popular. The knot is a great option, especially if you have a little tummy that you want to hide.
I also added this cute long cardigan in a soft pink color, I added a necklace and switched out my shoes for the Paul Green booties that I love. I actually really like the slip on tennis shoes in my before picture- but thought the boots might be a bit warmer today.
The after look is much cuter- and so easy!
Jeans are Joe’s from Nordstrom Rack. They are super soft and I love the cute frayed uneven hemline.
Necklace- my sweet sisters (Kara and Erin) made this for me years ago. I love it!
T Shirt- American Eagle. This is one of the softest t shirts ever. Seriously! And I love this color. Not sure what to call it?!
Please comment with your suggestions and thoughts! I love to hear from you- it truly makes my day!
I have a meeting this morning that I need to be dressed up for- yet I also have a bunch of errands that I will be running before my meeting- so (as usual) I want to look professional, but also be comfy enough to wander around Target!
I chose this blue jersey knit shift dress. It’s a great basic piece that every working woman should own.
I love this fabric because it really moves with your body, it is not stiff or restrictive at all. I also love this dress because of the gorgeous draping in the front. It’s really hard to see on the left- but in the ‘before’ picture on the right you can sort of see it.
All alone this dress works all right, (especially if I add a great necklace or shoes) but since it’s freezing out- I’ve added cream tights, brown (flat) boots, a brown belt and this polka dot cardigan.
To finish the whole thing off I added this cool statement necklace. As I was putting it on I remembered how a few years ago I NEVER wore necklaces, thinking they were ‘too dressy’ for day wear! Funny how things change over time. Now I feel almost naked without a necklace!
Unfortunately the lighting is so awful in my bathroom that you can’t even tell that I’m rocking my purple jeans- but trust me, I am! (As much as a 42 year old can rock anything! Not!)
This is a great outfit for those days when you are running around town and want to be comfy, casual and cute!
As mentioned, I chose my purple jeans, a white tank (notice the little ruffle detail around the neckline) and this cute beige open cardigan. To add some fun to the look, I wore my leopard flats and added a cute Stella and Dot necklace.
I’ve said this a million times- but it bears repeating:
I know I’m not the most fashionable person out there. And yes, I’ll agree that this outfit is a little on the ‘safe side’. I realize that for many people the idea that I am giving fashion advice is crazy… most of my friends are far more fashionable than I am!
But that being said, having this daily journal to document what I am wearing has inspired me to re-think my clothes, try new looks and get great advice from readers. Please remember that this blog is for us real ‘everyday’ moms who just want to look pulled together- not like we stepped off the runway (or are trying too hard to look young, hip and fabulous!). Enough said!
