I know I used this same before picture last weekend– but it is so bad- and yet I see women dressed like this all the time- that I had to show it again.
Since I pointed out all the flaws last week- I won’t waste your time today.
Let’s just say that there isn’t anything redeeming about this look on the right (well, except for the color combo of orange and blue- which is one of my favorites!).
For a similar, yet a little more stylish look- try skinny jeans, ballet flats and a cute tissue t shirt from the gap.
Because it’s still chilly here in the Northwest, I’ve added this cute military style jacket. I love this piece- you can throw it on for casual wear- or layer it over a dress- it’s that versatile! Best part- I bought it at Marshalls!
What are your plans for today? I have NONE! Weird!! I’m not sure what to do with myself!
Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m obsessed with stripes. I just can’t help myself.
Well, actually- you would be proud of me, I did buy a new dress today and while I contemplated buying the striped version I ended up buying the solid instead… but that’s another day, another post.
Today I’m actually showing what I wore last night to our elementary school play- which both of my kids performed in!
I’m very proud of them- and impressed with the entire cast. What a fun night!
On the right I’m showing this striped top with my old white pants- I actually think it looks pretty cute- but the pant length is a little too long and the boot leg cut is a little dated.
On the left I have my J Crew pencil jeans, which look better (and more ‘springy’). The slimmer cut and cropped leg make for a more current look.
This striped top is one of my new spring purchases.
Here’s what I like about it:
1. I like the way the waist is defined by a drawstring.
2. I love the chevron stripes. These angled stripes are slimming since they draw the eye up and down (creating a vertical line). To take this even one step further- the long necklace also creates a vertical line.
3. The V neckline is flattering for most figures.
4. The sleeves are a cute length- and also flattering if you don’t like showing your upper arms.
5. I like the long length of this top- (no muffin top).
To finish my outfit off, I have on these cute patent leather ballet flats. I love the toes on these, they are squared off and remind me of real ballet shoes. So cute!

I almost melted yesterday! Seriously- it was so much hotter than I anticipated- and we lost our soccer game. Bummer. Since today I am lacrosse mom- and will be sitting outside for several hours- I have chosen a much cooler outfit. I am wearing one of my favorite skirts- you might even recognize it. It’s from North Face and it is made of bamboo- which means it is so incredibly soft and comfortable. It also has a cool hemline- which adds interest. On top I am wearing something totally different than my usual style- it’s a t shirt that I actually bought for my son- but it was too big! I think it’s perfect for today- it’s casual, but cool- and adds an unexpected twist to my entire look. I love the guitar on the front- sort of ‘rock and roll cool’. To bring back the ‘sweetness’ I layered a hot pink, ladylike cardigan. I will peal this off as soon as it gets warm.
What do you think, would you wear this? Do I look ridiculous?
Well, it’s finally feeling like summer here in Seattle! I know, the rest of the country has been sweltering and we have only broken 80 degrees twice. Today may be the third day! Whoo hoo! For my summer outfit I threw on a comfy skirt, t shirt and my Birkenstocks. Seriously! I wore these daily until my 3 year old niece told me they look like grandpa shoes. When a 3 year old has more fashion sense than a 40 year old it’s time to worry! So, I have abandoned my Birks (I still wear them around the house- they are so comfortable) and switched to my new favorite sandal- from Target. You may remember them, I wore the orange ones the other day. They were so cute and so cheap I bought 3 pairs- black, tan and orange.
Here is my before outfit. I honestly don’t think this is so bad. What do you think? Too boring?
I decided to add a little color and style to this outfit by switching out my grey skirt for a cute patterned one from J Crew. I also added a necklace and as previously mentioned- changed my shoes. Is this better? I wonder if the pouf in this skirt actually makes me look too hippy. The before skirt seems more slimming.
